Philanthropy
We proudly support nonprofit organizations who are making an impact in the lives of others and encourage opportunities where our clients can participate in philanthropic giving.
We facilitate annual donation drives and offer clients the choice to donate “in honor of” to one of the four charities we support in lieu of a birthday gift.
To learn more about the charitable organizations we partner with, please read their stories below. And for more information about giving strategies and charitable contributions, please reach out to us. We’re here to help.
Since 1924, City Union Mission has provided warm beds, nutritious food and a place of safety for thousands of poverty-stricken and homeless men, women, and children. Founded by Rev. and Mrs. David Bulkley, one of their primary purposes for beginning this evangelical Christian ministry was for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the hurting and the lost. The Mission’s staff continues in that uncompromising commitment. City Union Mission receives no government support and is not a United Way agency. The Mission depends completely on the gifts of God’s people – individuals, churches, groups, foundations, and businesses who have a heart for the poor and homeless in Kansas City.
The Single Mom KC (TSMKC) was founded in 2009 by Misty Honnold in defiance of troubling statistics that 40% of children in Kansas City are growing up in single-parent homes, compared to a national average of 34% (American Community Survey, 2019).
Misty, a single mom, knew first-hand the exhaustion and isolation that comes with bearing the full responsibility of parenthood and provision for single parent families. She was determined to create a different story for herself and her children. Misty’s efforts kicked off a movement for other single mom families, and soon a grassroots organization of women were coming together to provide hope, courage, and community to each other.

On September 11, 2001, Stephen Siller, who was assigned to Brooklyn’s Squad 1, had just finished his shift and was on his way to play golf with his brothers when he got word over his scanner of a plane hitting the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Upon hearing the news, Stephen called his wife Sally and asked her to tell his brothers he would catch up with them later. He returned to Squad 1 to get his gear.
Stephen drove his truck to the entrance of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, but it had already been closed for security purposes. Determined to carry out his duty, he strapped 60 lbs. of gear to his back, and raced on foot through the tunnel to the Twin Towers, where he gave up his life while saving others.
Stephen had everything to live for; a great wife, five wonderful children, a devoted extended family, and friends. Stephen’s parents were lay Franciscans and he grew up under the guiding philosophy of St. Francis of Assisi, whose encouraging and inspirational phrase “while we have time, let us do good” were words that Stephen lived by. Stephen’s life and heroic death serve as a reminder to us all to live life to the fullest and to spend our time here on earth doing good – this is his legacy.
